History of the Gibson Gallery, formerly the Michigan Central Rail Station... The 100th birthday of the building was celebrated in April 1996 despite the fact that the plaque outside the door claims it was built in 1892. In 1969, the building was purchased by Florence Gibson and donated to Fort Malden Guild of Arts and Crafts which was founded in 1945. Although the Guild still owns the building, the property was purchased by the Public Utilities Commission in 1996. The Art Connection took over the operation of the Gallery on behalf of the Guild in June of 1996. The regular hours of operation have expanded to keep the Gallery open Tuesdays thru Sundays from 11am to 5 pm. We are also open any evenings that classes are in session. Our goal is to become the cultural hub of the Tri-Community area and to attract tourists to another one of Amherstburg's beautiful historic buildings. |
